Is this supposed to be a sad thing? All the PC ports and complex mods we see today wouldn't be possible without the work of this community, building tools and methods every AI decompile is using now. They are retiring now because we have a faster way to do the same things. It's not leaving in anger.
I can't speak for them but if I was working on these kind of projects I would be excited that someone repeated it for other games. The goal is making it possible to read and understand the code for old games, port them to PC and mod them all without having to write assembly. If you're having fun with it and improving your RE skills that's just a bonus.
It's true that some new AI decomps are bad quality code but that's also an opportunity to clean them up, or start a new project from scratch now that it's cheap. For every 10 half broken slop mods there's something genuinely fun (but still not that interesting) like Minecraft in GTA, and for every 10 crossovers there's a ReSkate.
